About the production
In Magdalena Marszałkowska's production of “Yvonne, die Burgunderprinzessin” (known in English as “Ivona, Princess of Burgundia”), the royal court becomes a catwalk of vanity, self-display and social cruelty. The stage becomes a place where social media, perfected surfaces and the pressure to keep up appearances are visibly negotiated.
Yvonne's otherness becomes a provocation to a glamorous, artificial world. The production links Gombrowicz's classic with themes such as social media, exclusion, body image, violence towards those who are different, and the question of how far perception and worth today depend on digital images and public approval.
The direction reads the text as a contemporary experiment on norms, conformity and collective aggression. It is precisely in the friction between silence, surface and public self-staging that this version finds its particular tension.
