About the play
“Stille Nacht” (“Silent Night”) treats estrangement within the family as a social microcosm in which wider tensions in society become visible. At its centre are themes such as coming out, rejection by one's family, religious moral codes and the fear of living one's own life openly and on one's own terms.
A seemingly ordinary Christmas gathering becomes the place where repressed conflicts, old wounds and unspoken truths break open. The play combines serious social questions with satirical and comic moments.
It asks whether love of one's neighbour, acceptance and reconciliation are truly lived – or often remain a mere façade.
