About the play
“Fenster zur Welt” (“Window on the World”) is a tragicomedy about the absence of love, the longing for closeness and the growing loneliness of a person who withdraws further and further from society. At its centre is Halina, a widow who, after a life lived for others, is confronted with an emptiness she can barely fill.
While her grown-up children lead their own lives, Halina increasingly takes refuge in a world of telenovelas, memories and wishful images. The characters on television become family, comfort and projection.
The play explores the line between reality and fantasy – and asks whether a person can be happy at all without closeness and relationships.
